Doug spent 27 years in the pharmaceutical industry, all within the Research and Development division of GlaxoSmithKline, working to find new medicines to treat cancer, heart disease, and other chronic conditions. He has a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Connecticut and a Doctor of Pharmacy from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science (now part of St. Joseph’s University) and was a licensed pharmacist in Pennsylvania for most of his professional career. As part of his career, Doug worked in Clinical Development and then in business development and managed highly complex collaborations with other organizations, including other large and small pharma companies, medical institutions, universities, and government entities from all over the world. He also led multidisciplinary teams working on high value projects spanning from early discovery through to approval and market launch. In this role, he was responsible for all aspects of his projects, including strategy, timelines and budget.
Doug is now retired and is actively supporting ITNLehighValley both as a volunteer driver and also serving aos Co-Chair of the Board of Directors. His hobbies include piano and golf.
Retired Social Service Manager, St Luke’s Home Care
Adele Bon-Shannon, Board Co-Chair, is a retired clinical social worker, having worked as Social Service Manager for St. Luke’s Home Health for nearly 30 years. She also maintained a private therapy practice for many years. She is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University with a B A in Social Welfare and Marywood University with a Master’s Degree in Social Work. In addition to ITNLehighValley, she works with two church-based non-profit organizations and the Lehigh County Conservation District Board. She enjoys friends and family, including five children, ten grandchildren and their families, as well as reading, puzzles, gardening, travel and Tai Chi.
Mr. Shadid has a strong background in nursing and health care administration. A registered nurse, he holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Nursing. He also has earned a Master of Business Administration degree, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Health Policy and Administration.
After Good Shepherd contracted with the County of Lehigh to manage Cedarbrook Senior Care and Rehab (county government home with 670 beds over 900 employees), Mr. Shadid was the administrator for Cedarbrook who oversaw significant improvement in the facility’s ratings, which attained five-star status. He has a proven track record of focusing on quality nursing care, resident quality of life, and staff training to attain and maintain superior performance. Now, he is the CEO for Holy Family Senior Living since 2019.
Mr. Shadid’s additional experience includes serving as an administrator of Good Shepherd Home, Bethlehem; S enior Director of Nursing Care Services of Moravian Hall Square, Nazareth; Transfer Center Coordinator and an ICU RN at Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, Allentown. Shadid also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the Graduate Nursing and Business Program at Cedar Crest College and Desales University.

Dianne Michels has been involved in the helping profession since 1980. She has also taught in Special Education field for three years. She obtained her Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology and Counseling at Chestnut Hill College. She has established a counseling program in a small nonprofit agency serving visually impaired adults. Dianne believes in the importance of remaining independent even though one may have a vision problem. Part of that independence is being able to get to places that you need to go to such as the bank, doctors, offices, and stores. Dianne is not only a Board member of ITNLehighValley, but she is a rider as well. She demonstrates how ITNLehighValley has been instrumental in maintaining her independence.
Attorney Daniel A. Polanski is a life-long resident of Nazareth, PA and was educated in its schools, graduating in 1976. He then attended Moravian College, attaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 1980. Thereafter, he received a juris doctorate degree in 1983, from the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
After completion of his legal studies and admission to the bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, Mr. Polanski began a thirty-five-year career in local government, serving first as an assistant Northampton County District Attorney from 1983 to 1998, and then he was asked to be the County’s first Human Resources Director, carrying out those duties until 2005. Since 2005, he has represented Northampton County Children, Youth and Families in child welfare matters, and he continues in that role.
Attorney Polanski is a member of the bar of the federal court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, as well as a member of the American Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, Northampton County Bar Association, as well as the Pennsylvania Children and Youth Solicitor’s Association, and the Pennsylvania District Attorney’s Association from 1983 to 1998.
Mr. Polanski, who has cerebral palsy and is unable to drive, has been a supporter of ITNLehighValley since early on, due to a concern for transportation for the disabled and vision-impaired. He believes that ITNLehighValley fulfills a critical need for those individuals in the Valley in that it fosters their ability to function independently and participate fully in the life of our community.
Yajaira Millan is a mother of three—two boys and one girl—and enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She worked for Amazon as an Account Manager for the East Coast Node for nine years. In her free time, she enjoys vinyl wrapping vehicles and working on her Volkswagen GTI alongside her car enthusiast friends.
Thomas Ruppe is a father of three and a grandfather of nine, and has been married to his wife, Lucy, for 50 years. He grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and has been a resident of Forks Township since 1986. He retired from Halls Warehouse as a Facility Manager after working there for 38 years. He enjoys watching his grandchildren participate in all of their activities.
